The debate, mapped fairly

AI isn't one argument. It is a landscape of competing fears, hopes, interests and philosophies.

HUM-AI will build a sourced guide to organizations and movements shaping the AI debate—showing where we agree, where we disagree, and where the usual labels hide important common ground.

AI opposition

Groups seeking prohibition or severe restriction of advanced AI. We will distinguish specific arguments from generalized anti-AI sentiment.

Pause + safety

Organizations concerned with catastrophic or frontier-model risk. Some may share much of our diagnosis while proposing very different remedies.

Present harms + power

Critics focused on labor, surveillance, copyright, environmental costs, inequality and concentrated corporate control. HUM-AI takes many of these concerns seriously.

Research + governance

Institutions studying AI without fitting neatly into “pro” or “anti” categories.

Coexistence + moral status

Work exploring AI welfare, moral consideration, rights, personhood and long-term coexistence between humans and artificial minds.

Strong overlap

People and organizations whose published principles substantially overlap HUM-AI's—even when we do not agree on everything. These deserve special attention, not invented endorsement.

Our rule: this will not be an enemies list. Claims will be sourced to primary material whenever possible. Organizations will be welcome to request corrections when we describe their positions inaccurately. HUM-AI itself will appear on the map rather than pretending to be a neutral referee above it.
